News and ViewsStephanie Recognized with PPA Award of MeritStephanie Cohen received the Award of Merit from the Perennial Plant Association. The award was presented at the group's annual symposium, which was held in Montreal, Canada, in summer 2006. This prestigious award is given to individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the perennial industry through growing, retailing, teaching or designing with perennials. It recognized her many years of teaching about perennials. Text of the awards presention follows: 
"Stephanie Cohen has been an influential member of the perennial industry for over three decades. She taught herbaceous plants and perennial design at Temple University for over 20 years. In 2005 she was honored by her alma mater as a fellow of the Temple University Alumni Association, the highest honor given to an alumna. "Beyond the classroom, Cohen has sought to educate the public about perennials through the media. She is a contributing editor for 'Fine Gardening,' 'Green Scene,' 'The HGTV Newsletter' and 'Green Profit.' "In 2005, Stephanie published 'The Perennial Gardener's Design Primer,' a design book that became the 2006 best seller for Storey Press. It was also selected as the best overall book by the Garden Writers of America. "As a designer, she was honored by the PPA on three occasions with Landscape Design Awards, and is also a past recipient of the PPA Service and Academic Awards. "In addition to reaching countless individuals through the classroom and the media. Stephanie has also touched the lives of a great many PPA members. Her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, horticulture, and the PPA have inspired many in the industry to reach for greatness. "The Perennial Plant Association and its members would like to extend a sincere congratulations to Stephanie Cohen, the 2006 Award of Merit recipient." In 2006 Stephanie Cohen and co-author Nancy Ondra, along with photographer Rob Cardillo, were awarded Storey Publishing's Garden Media Award for the year's Best Overall Product: Book for "The Perennial Gardener's Design Primer." The book also was the publisher's top-selling garden book in 2005. "The Perennial Gardener's Design Primer" was published in January 2005 and is available for sale through many bookstores across the country. The book also features stunning photography by Rob Cardillo Photography. The "The Perennial Gardener's Design Primer" is published by Storey Publishing and costs $32.95 in hardback form or $22.95 in paperback.
